What is Graphic Impressions?

SGCI’s journal. We are open to interviews, academic articles, studio visits (showcases of your work), reviews of books or shows, and demonstrations. All submissions are reviewed by the Graphic Impressions Review Committee.

Schedule

Graphic Impressions is published four times a year. It is sent via email and posted on this website.

  • Q1 July 1st
  • Q2 October 1st
  • Q3 January 1st
  • Q4 April 1st

Proposal submissions are accepted:

  • March 1st to 31st
  • June 1st to 30th
  • September 1st to 30th
  • December 1st to 31st

Submitting

Graphic Impressions accepts proposals as well as completed submissions! Our schedule is written with proposals in mind. Submittors will propose their idea and send the completed article to the committee after the proposal is accepted.

A completed article will have a looser timeline. We accept articles that have been published in other journals.

Submissions are accepted:

  • June 1st to 30th
  • September 1st to 30th
  • December 1st to 31st
  • March 1st to 31st

Written submissions should be named:

LAST NAME, FIRST NAME, MONTH, YEAR, TITLE

Image submissions should be named:

LAST NAME, FIRST NAME, MONTH, YEAR, TITLE

They should be a Word Document. Other file types, including PDFs, will not be accepted.

Guidelines for articles

Must be completed before submitting. We recommend having it proofread before submitting. Graphic Impressions is not able to extensively proofread and edit.

1500-2000 words

Guidelines for reviews

Must be completed before submitting. We recommend having it proofread before submitting. Graphic Impressions is not able to extensively proofread and edit.

Product, Book or Exhibition reviews of content released within the past

12 months. 400-600 words.

Guidelines for interviews

Must be completed before submitting. We recommend having it proofread before submitting. Graphic Impressions is not able to extensively proofread and edit.

Variable Length. Video or audio submissions would be accepted, but a written transcript would be required for the hearing impaired.

Guidelines for studio visits/showing your work

At least 5 JPEGs or PNGS. 300 dpi. 2500px on the smallest side. High quality images.

Mp4s may be submitted for performance art.

Bio and artist statement: 1000 words

Variable Length. “Studio Visits” would be photos of personal studios and workspaces. 

You may also submit a video tour but it cannot take the place of the written part or the photographs.

Guidelines for demonstrations or process-based content

500-1000 words 

SGCI primarily supports printmaking, book arts, and papermaking artists but we will accept other processes our members may find interesting.
