The Review Committee

Our first four articles were selected to generate interest and show off the new Graphic Impressions. The first member submissions will go online October 1st, 2023.

Occasionally, Graphic Impressions will provide themes. Some submission periods will be open.

The Graphic Impressions Review Committee will strive to select articles relevant to today’s artistic discourse. Print focused articles will have preference but all articles related to art will be considered.

Who is the Graphic Impressions Coordinator?

The Coordinator is a board member who organizes the review committee and handles communication with the applicants.

Schedule

Graphic Impressions is published 4 times a year. It is sent via email and posted on our Graphic Impressions website.

  • Q2 October 1st
  • Q3 January 1st
  • Q4 April 1st

Submissions are accepted:

  • June 1st to 30th
  • September 1st to 30th
  • December 1st to 31st
  • March 1st to 31st

Selecting the committee

Submissions should be reviewed by a group consisting of the GI Coordinator, a rotating board member, and at least 1 SGCI member volunteer. They will select two articles to be reviewed.

Who can serve on the committee?

Any SGCI member, Collaborator or above, in good standing may serve on the committee. Members may apply by emailing help@sgcinternational.org using the subject “Graphic Impressions Committee.”  Please send a CV, previous articles (if applicable-not necessary) and a statement of interest.

SGCI will put out a call for 1 to 2 member volunteers on IG and via email on:

  • June 1
  • September 1
  • December 1
  • March 1

A board member will volunteer each quarter. The committee will change each quarter. Committee members are welcome to volunteer again but are not obligated.

Reviewing Submissions

The Graphic Impressions Coordinator will send submissions to the committee by the 5th of the month.

  • July 5th
  • October 5th
  • January 5th
  • April 5th

The committee will always meet between the 5th and 15th of the first month of the quarter. Example: In quarter 1, the committee will meet July 7th to review submissions.

The committee will select two submissions. They will reject other submissions but leave room for them just in case submissions dry up!!

Editing Timeline

Submissions close:

  • June 30th
  • September: 30
  • December 31st
  • March 31st

The committee meets.

Acceptance and Rejection letters are sent (by the GI Coordinator):

  • July 18th
  • October 18th
  • December 18th
  • March 18th

The first revisions are sent the 1st of the following month:

  • August 1st
  • November 1st
  • February 1st
  • May 1st

The author must respond by the 15th:

  • August 15th
  • November 15th
  • February 15th
  • May 15th

If all edits are agreed upon, wait until publishing. If the edits are not accepted, the committee must meet again or communicate via email. The article should be finalized by the end of the next month to be published on the tenth of the next month to be ready in time.

Article is finalized:

  • September 10th
  • December 10th
  • March 10th
  • June 10th

The GI Coordinator will spend the remaining time setting up the site and the Mailchimp email to go out.
