About the Artist

Sarah Farahat is an Egyptian American* daughter, sister, aunti and friend. Her work blows seeds between cultural works, healing arts, activism and the more-than-human world.  Her garden and kitchen are full of flowers and herbs from Turtle Island and from her SWANA homelands.  For the past fifteen years she has organized her life around questions of identity, assimilation, grief, the body within socio-political struggle, collective liberation and self-determination. She is a member of the Justseeds Artists’ Cooperative. As a nomadic child of diaspora, Farahat plants portals through taste, text, image and sound while continually attempting to live in reciprocity with the land wherever she creates home.

*she grapples with an appropriate way to name her location amidst the ongoing legacies of harm to land and people by colonialist projects

The works selected for this portfolio reflect my interest in supporting Indigenous sovereignty movements and our rights as global citizens to a more visionary future for all living beings. These designs are activated through protests, picket lines, fundraisers, and as inspiration and instigation for social change.
