Curated Exhibition with Sharon Jue:
Letterpress saves my soul daily
Jenny Wilkson is a letterpress educator and artist. She holds an MA in Design from UC Berkeley and is fortunate to be one of the few of her generation to have undergone a traditional letterpress apprenticeship. For 19 years, she oversaw the operations, curriculum and community outreach of the letterpress department at the School of Visual Concepts as its founder and director. In response to the impacts of COVID-19, she helped to evolve that program into Partners in Print, a decentralized non-profit organization focused on community building and inclusivity.
While Jenny adores working with handset metal type, she doesn’t keep any around in her studio. Most of the time, she prints from laser cut plywood, wood type, and photopolymer plates. WilxBlox—a modular, laser cut typeface she created with her partner, Jeff Wilkson—has been a source of endless creativity.
