Artist Statement

My work is inspired by data collection and visualization, particularly the ways in which data is misinterpreted or misrepresented during the spread of disinformation. I depict data as fruit segments, worn belongings, bottle caps, loose threads, unidentified jars, tea leaves, and more. Data represents real people, objects, and systems which are always changing, often contradictory, and full of nuance that is not or cannot be shown in simple visuals. My work is also informed by personal identity, growing up closeted in a conservative and religious environment. I am thinking about deconstruction, whittling away at previously held foundational beliefs, and houses haunted by their own shadows.

A busy fantasyland map that feels in part inspired by Mr. Roger's Neighborhood sits on a chartreuse grid. In the upper right corner is a pop out of a discombobulated house evoking a nonsense exploded drawing in pink on yellow grid paper.
