Artist Statement
Combining printmaking, drawing, and sculpture, my work explores how identity and memory are mediated through digital images and techno-capitalism. Pulling from social media trends nostalgically glorifying the early internet, video games, and my own personal memory, I montage together signs, symbols, and other signifiers through a drawing process similar to collage. In these diagrammatically layered drawings, I reference the endless circulation of images on the internet. However by employing negative space and facilitating a loss of information through digital editing, screen printing, and experimental transferring techniques, the work empties-out of the content it is made from, embodying wistfulness and erasure. These hybrid prints are then installed using industrial and infrastructural materials, which allows the work to have a greater presence, while also raising associations to unseen, skeletal, frameworks. What results are works that give shape to the ghostly traces left behind from the prolonged experience of digital technology.
